Though the Village continues to maintain and improve its public sewer system, homes built prior to 1980 without overhead sewers can remain vulnerable to flooding caused by the entry of storm water into the sewer system. Protecting each home’s sanitary sewer lateral and removing private sources of stormwater into the sanitary sewer system will significantly reduce the risk of basement backups for individual homeowners.
The Village Board has implemented a cost-sharing reimbursement program to assist eligible homeowners in reducing the risk of sanitary sewer backups. The Village will reimburse homeowners 50% of the cost of eligible improvements, up to $5,000. The program budget is determined annually by the Village Board and funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Village’s reimbursement amount will be based on the minimum of three cost estimates received by the homeowner. To be eligible, construction must include removal of all storm water sources into the sanitary system.
