Temple Jeremiah Offers Programs Open to the Community
Temple Jeremiah, a Reform Jewish congregation affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism, located at 937 Happ Road in Northfield, holds weekly worship services and study programs. Programs New York Times bestselling author Daniel Levin keynote speaker at the Jewish United Fund breakfast Sunday, March 14 at 10:00 AM. Author of the bestseller, "The Last Ember," Daniel Levin will discuss his book which Publisher's Weekly described as "a gripping, thought-provoking thriller set in the deadly world of illicit antiquity excavation and ancient intrigue. North Shore Senior Center Offers a Variety of Programs and Special Events
Northfield Seniors and others will find a wealth of programs and events offered at the North Shore Senior Center located at 161 Northfield Road in Northfield. Some events and classes are free and open to the public, others require fees. Reservations are need for most events. For more information or to make reservations, call 847-784-6030 or visit www.nssc.org.
Some of the classes and events being offered cover subjects that include music, politics, religion, dancing, sewing, history, use of computers and more. Following is a small sampling of some of the upcoming programs:

Programs NSSC Day Trips Adlai Stevenson Historic Home & Fort Sheridan--Thursday, March 11 from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Visit the Art Deco house of Stevenson and his then-wife Ellen Bordon. Provides beautiful views of the peaceful historic landscape. The Center for Democracy is also on the property. After lunch at Bottaio, the group will travel to Fort Sheridan and take a bus tour around the grand parade loop, stopping at historic spots along the way. Fee: $49/Members; $64/Non-Members. Reservations required: 847-784-6030.
Services and Opportunities New Congregate Lunch Program. The NSSC's Congregate Lunch Program is funded under Title III of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended. Its purpose is to provide hot, healthy middaymeals to people 60 years of age and older. Join us at the Senior Center, 161 Northfield Road in Northfield every Monday and Wednesday at noon for good food and a chance to meet other seniors who live in the surrounding communities. Suggested donation $3 or any amount you are able to give.
Food Drive Helps Local Food Pantries Stock Up for Holidays and After. Help local food pantries restock their pantries in Northfield and New Trier Townships so those in need of food are able to pick up items in December and January. A variety of boxed and canned items are needed. There is also a collection box at the NSSC A&T Cafe for cash contributions. Call the office for a complete list of food items needed, 847-784-6023.
Volunteer to Bring Nutritious Meals to Seniors. The North Shore Senior Center has begun delivering hot meals to seniors in Maine Twp. There are two successful routes up and running and they are looking for volunteers to help start a third route. As a volunteer driver, you delivery meals once each week to approximately 8 seniors in Des Plaines, Niles and/or Morton Grove. The route takes only one hour but you will be smiling for days knowing you have helped seniors in such an important way. For more information, contact Maura Rogan, 847-784-6052 or mrogan@nssc.org.
North Shore Senior Center's Handyman Program Provides a Helping Hand around the House The NSSC Handyman has the talent and exprience to tackle a variety of household projects and repair jobs. If you are age 60 or older (or disabled and any age) and live in New Trier or Northfield Twp., you can take advantage of this helpful service. A Handyman is available by appointment to work in a single residence for up to 3 hours per appointment. The Handyman does not perform services for which a plumber, electrician or contractor should be hired. The cost of Handyman services per hour is $39 plus the cost of any materials needed. Payment is due at the time of service. Some typical services include: replace light bulbs, re-light gas appliances and pilot lights, switch screens and storm windows, repair damaged electrical cords; free sticking locks, doors and windows; install grab bars, replace cabinet hinges or handles, move furniture and appliances, deliver goods to rummage sales, perform basic yard work, install smoke detectors, install window air conditioners, replace fuses, replace smoke detector batteries, assemble furniture. Sunset Ridge School District 29 Invites Residents to Community Meetings
Sunset Ridge School District 29 will continue the facilities study begun last year in an effort to assist the District in designing a master plan for future facilities. It plans to engage the community, staff and the Board of Education in meetings that involve all in the collaborative process. They hope these cooperative efforts will lead to a plan that supports the school's educational vision and provides the greatest benefit to the community. Community meeting dates are as follows: Jan. 26--Community Orientation Meeting; Feb. 16--Initial Concepts Review Task Force; Mar. 16--Initial Concepts Follow-up; Apr. 6--Draft Plan Development; May 4--Community Presentation to the Board of Education; May 25--Options Forum and Jun. 22--Community Presentation to theBoard of Education. All meetings will be held at Sunset Ridge School and start at 7:00 p.m. The exact room location is to be determined. Northfield Churches Join in Holding World Day of Prayer Service on Friday, March 5
All the churches of Northfield are joining together to hold a World Day of Prayer Service on Friday, March 5 at 10:00 AM at the Northfield Community Church, 400 Wagner Road in Northfield. Participating churches include The Episcopal Church of St. James the Less, Northfield Community Church, Lutheran Church of the Ascension, St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church and Willow Creek North Shore.
