Friday, July 4--Celebrate Independence Day at the New Willow Park! Start the day by participating in the Bike and Wagon Parade. Walkers always welcome. Plan your red, white and blue outfit and decorations and join the fun! Line up at 9:45 AM with the North group at Somerset and Old Willow Road or the South group at the Ameritech Lot on Winnetka Road. Enjoy bike/wagon judging, games, relay and wheelbarrow races, contests, rides plus temporary tattoos, sand art, face painting and Guitar Hero. There will be the traditional 4th of July foods available for sale including hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, soda and water. Come and enjoy the day.

Children's Summer Program Offered at St. James the Less June 8 - August 17
Children ages 3-8 and 9-13 years of age are invited to attend St. James the Less Episcopal Church, 550 Sunset Ridge Road, Children's Summer Program on Sunday mornings June 8 through August 17 at 9:45 AM. This year's theme is "It's A BIG Secret" and will involve Bible stories, crafts, music and puzzles. The secret theme runs throughout but each session is self-contained. Family Fun Fair Full of Surprises - Saturday, May 31 from 10 AM to 5 PM
Mark your calendars and don't miss this day of fun! The Annual Family Fun Fair hosted by the Sunset Ridge - Middlefork PTO comes to town Saturday, May 31 from 10 AM to 5 PM. The fair will beheld for one day only (rain or shine) at the Middlefork School, 405 Wagner Road. Enjoy new rides and events plus the traditional favorites! Mega passes will be sold at both Sunset Ridge and Middlefork Schools two days prior to the fair for $30 each and $35 at the fair. Individual tickets will be sold for 75 cents per ticket. Northfield Farmers Market Opens Saturday, June 7
All the wonderful fresh foods, beautiful flowers, tasty cheeses and other delights of the Farmers Market will be back in Northfield beginning Saturday, June 7 from 7:30 AM to Noon. The Farmers Market is hosted by the Northfield Chamber of Commerce and will be held every Saturday rain or shine June 7 through mid-October. Select from locally grown fruits and vegetables (in season), delicious cheeses, baked goods and many other specialty food items. Choose from hardy colorful annuals, native perennials and hanging baskets for your yard and patio or deck. The Farmers Market is a wonderful meeting place to stop and visit with friends and neighbors. It is located across the street from New Trier High School West Campus on Happ Road south of Winnetka Road and offers free parking. It's a wonderful adventure for children and pets, however, or health and sanitation reasons, please find an area outside the Market to tie your pet while you shop.

North Shore Senior Center Offers a Variety of Programs and Special Events
Northfield Seniors and others will find a wealth of programs and events offered at the North Shore Senior Center located at 161 Northfield Road in Northfield. Some events and classes are free and open to the public, others require fees. Reservations are need for most events. Some of the classes and events being offered cover subjects that include music, politics, religion, dancing, sewing, history, use of computers and more. Following is a small sampling of some of the upcoming programs:
On-Going Programs Include: May 6 - June 3- Tuesdays at 1:30-4:00 PM: Making Sense of Memory Loss: A Seminar for Family Members of Persons with Early Stage Memory Loss. A five-session class that provides an overview of memory loss and related symptoms, along with an examination of communications strategies, planning for the future, decision making, and effective ways of caring and coping. Special Events Include: May 12 - Monday, 8:30 AM to Noon: Home Sweet Home: Practical Resources for Seniors, Individuals with Disabilities and Their Families. A free conference sponsored by North Shore Senior Center and New Trier Twp. held at Winnetka Women's Club, 485 Maple Street, Winnetka, IL. Learn about home modifications, supportive services and financial assistance programs. Keynote Speaker: State Representative Beth Coulson. Other speakers include representatives from Extended Home Living Service; Handi-Ramp Foundation, Illinois Dept. on Aging, Illinois Dept. of Human Services, North Shore Senior Center, Progress Center for Independent Living and Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. North Shore Senior Center's Handyman Program Provides a Helping Hand around the House The NSSC Handyman has the talent and exprience to tackle a variety of household projects and repair jobs. If you are age 60 or older (or disabled and any age) and live in New Trier or Northfield Twp., you can take advantage of this helpful service. A Handyman is available by appointment to work in a single residence for up to 3 hours per appointment. The Handyman does not perform services for which a plumber, electrician or contractor should be hired. The cost of Handyman services per hour is $39 plus the cost of any materials needed. Payment is due at the time of service. Some typical services include: replace light bulbs, re-light gas appliances and pilot lights, switch screens and storm windows, repair damaged electrical cords; free sticking locks, doors and windows; install grab bars, replace cabinet hinges or handles, move furniture and appliances, deliver goods to rummage sales, perform basic yard work, install smoke detectors, install window air conditioners, replace fuses, replace smoke detector batteries, assemble furniture. Christian Heritage Academy Hosts Musical and Golf Outing

Temple Jeremiah Offers Programs Open to the Community
Temple Jeremiah, a Reform Jewish congregation located at 937 Happ Road in Northfield, provides programs on education, music, books, politics and more. Following is a list of upcoming programs open to all residents:
May 14 - Wednesday at Noon--Enjoy the sounds of swing era medleys and Broadway musicals while donating to a worthy cause at Temple Jeremiah's "Chai Society" lunch and concert fundraiser to help raise funds for the purchase of a compact fire truck, a specialized vehicle estimated to cost $100,000, for Israel's Fire and Rescue Service. Music performed by the New Horizons, a 25-member senior band from Winnetka along with Temple Jeremiah's Cantor Amy Zussman and Music Director David Lornson.
