Body and Sole has been a family-owned haven for North Shore dancers for two generations. Frances Reisman launched the boutique in 1974 in Winnetka, and moved it to Northfield in 2015. For years, Frances ran the shop with her daughter Marla.
Following Frances’s passing, Marla decided to return to financial advising and thought she would have to close Body and Sole for good, leaving longtime customers devastated. Luckily, customers weren’t the only ones saddened by the possibility of the boutique closing its doors. Shop employee Ivette Perez-Amezquita soon realized she couldn’t bear to see the place close forever, so she purchased the shop from Marla and officially took over ownership this February.
The boutique offers all of the equipment necessary to flourish at a dance studio- a variety of shoes, including ballet, tap, jazz, character, and pointe, dance and gymnastics leotards, tights, accessories, and much more!
“We believe that the benefits dance, gymnastics, and all performing arts have on one’s mind, body, and soul inspires creativity and long-lasting benefits to one’s health,” Ivette said. This philosophy is at the heart of Body and Sole. “We want all of our dancers to leave our store feeling self-assured and confident.”
With the rise of internet commerce, it hasn’t been easy to keep the shop up and running, but they have found success through their website, www.bodyandsolestore.com, Facebook, and Instagram. COVID-19 delayed their grand re-opening, but they recently held a beautiful ribbon-cutting with the help of the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce.
