If you’re in the market for a guitar, why go anywhere other than the shop Keith Richards, Billy Gibbons, Steve Miller, Jimmy Page and John Mayer trust to supply them with their specialty gear? Thankfully Make’n Music is right down the road in Northfield and you can shop where the stars have been shopping for over 40 years!
Teddy Gordon owns the premium musical instrument boutique, which first opened its doors in 1973. Teddy grew up in a musical family and started playing the ukulele at a young age. From there he picked up the acoustic guitar, before discovering rock and roll and the sweet sound of an electric guitar. He had found his passion, and went to school to learn how to build and repair guitars before transitioning to the world of sales.
Make’n Music filled the musical void left in Northfield when Gand Music closed their doors in late 2014. Teddy moved his shop to the Village for a number of reasons, primarily because Northfield provides a convenient location with easy-access to the city while offering a feeling of community.
With customers ranging from students to professional rock bands, Make’n Music is your one-stop-shop for quality guitars and equipment. They offer friendly and helpful service both in their shop and through their website, www.makenmusic.com, where you can browse a curated selection of what they have to offer. While Make’n Music specializes in boutique and custom guitars, they also sell ukuleles, keyboards, amplifiers, accessories and offer repairs in conjunction with Chicago’s only full service guitar repair shop - Third Coast Guitar Service.
Make’n Music offers private and group lessons in electric and acoustic guitar, bass, ukulele, drums, keyboards and a rock band group. Students range in age from 7 to 77, making Make’n Music a great place to start learning, regardless of your skill level. Teddy is even offering a free trial lesson to any Northfield resident who reads this article and is interested in trying something new!
Looking for a gift for the person who has everything? Consider a gift certificate for music lessons or gear! With such a wide variety of lessons to choose from, everyone can learn something new or discover a passion they never knew they had. Teddy explains this passion best when asked why he loves guitars, “Have you seen them? They’re so cool. Guitars are like children, you can’t pick which one is your favorite - you like different ones for different reasons.” While you may not be a rock star (yet!), you can certainly shop like one at Make’n Music.
